SPRING BLOG | Reflecting on an Historic SoCal Winter

SPRING BLOG: Reflecting on an Historic SoCal Winter #artscienceEARTH

MENIFEE, CALIFORNIA\\ I’m sure you caught wind of the “SuperBloom” that attracted visitors from all over the country to the poppy fields in Lake Elsinore. I haven’t made my way there, yet but, it’s close enough that I may see what all the fuss is about in the near future.

The surrounding hills and fields that are usually brown with little vegetation are suddenly covered in a lush green. Some of the distant mountains, even, still have a healthy snow cap. With all of this water, it’s interesting to wonder what to expect as far as irrigation this summer.

For the past few years, we’ve seen record setting temperatures and very little precipitation, if any. Does this mean that our outdoor landscapes and gardens are prepared?

With occasional hot days popping up this Spring, it’s hard to imagine that Summer won’t bring it’s usual heat. However, with the cooler temps and abundant water in the ground for much of the Winter, I’m hopeful that this Summer won’t be as devastating as the last few.

For the first time since 2011 the entire state of California is officially out of drought according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Although, there are still a few sections that are “Abnormally Dry” this is really great news.
